Negotiation and Mediation

Hi Delegates,

As you've all probably read a few times by now, Topic 1 is intended to take the form of a negotiation. This obviously means that there will be conflicting views on various pricing policies and other issues. And although it's easy to get lost in a deadlock, we would really prefer to see you guys work these issues out.

But for smaller producers and some of the less powerful observer states, deadlocks like these present a great opportunity to step in as a mediator. Whether simply helping two opposing factions hash out a compromise during unmod, or acting as a formal mediator in a resolution, smaller nations can take advantage of other countries' disagreement to contribute to committee and include some of their own ideas by shaping any compromise that does get reached.

So as we rapidly approach conference, take a minute to research how your country has played similar roles in the past, especially within OPEC or between other OPEC member states. As always, don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions or concerns!
