Crisis Policy

Hi everyone,

To avoid confusion in committee about how crises will work for OPEC, heres's a rough outline of how we will be introducing and handling crises in committee. First and foremost, this committee is a Specialized Committee, meaning we will stick to using regular procedure for all of conference. Although we will have crises, they are designed to shift your attention to a particular facet of the topic or alter the flow of debate.

We will not be allowing any countries to use portfolio powers (e.g. military and similar resources). Should a response be required from your country, we will let you know. But as the delegates of your country to OPEC, you will likely have very little power in influencing the actions taken by your country, particularly in non-oil related matters.

In terms of how we would like you to address crises, we are looking for solutions to either be incorporated into an existing resolution, or for the committee to pass another resolution dealign with the issue. Although we will accept relevant communique's, we likely won't be accepting directives to prevent the committee from transforming into a crisis committee (but this may change depending on how crises play out, we will keep you updated).

These guidelines, although firm, are not set in stone. We may allow delegates to pass directives or use very limited portfolio powers depending on the situation. If you ever have any questions about any of this (before or during committee), don't hesitate to reach out. Thanks!
