A Few Tips

Hi everyone,

Hope you all had a great holiday season! Now that BMUN is just over a month away, I wanted to give you guys some general advice that will hopefully guide your research and your thought process as you brainstorm possible solutions.

For Topic 1, the Topic Synopsis heavily emphasizes OPEC's vulnerability to internal squabbles that paralyze the organization. As realistic as these situations are, at conference we're hoping to see a lively debate covering multitude of issues. In preparing for conference then, you should make an effort to understand what your country can accept, and how you will compromise with others to actually reach an agreement. This means you will have to find a balance between your country's policy and an acceptable compromise in order to drive debate forward.

As you've probably read many times on the website and in the synopsis, Topic 2 is much more open-ended. We'd love to see new ideas for directions OPEC can take as an organization. That being said, we are also not looking for delegates to create new scientific solutions/invent new technologies (after all, MUN is about debate and diplomacy, not science and innovation). Feel free to propose solutions involving technology that exists or is theorized today, but make sure to keep it reasonable.

On a separate note, make sure to check out Vikas' and Julia's posts later this week for some cool resources on both topics. And as always, please reach out (via email or the comments) about any issues, concerns, or questions. See you all in March!
