Hello Delegates!

Hi everyone,

My name is Sachit Shroff and I'm a sophomore studying Computer Science and Peace & Conflict Studies, and have the pleasure of serving as the Head Chair for OPEC this year! I'm originally from Burlingame, California (right here in the Bay Area). Even after 6 years of participating in BMUN as both a chair and a delegate, I'm continually amazed by the creativity, intelligence, and debate that come out of BMUN conferences.

This year, we'll be covering two unique topics: the 174th Meeting of OPEC, and 2030- Adapting to an Energy Independent Future. The first topic involves setting long-term goals for OPEC complete with quotas, and will take the form of a politically-motivated debate. The second topic will then jump to the future, where the resolutions you pass on the first topic will affect the "world state" at the beginning of the second topic. This topic is much more open-ended, but the goal is to reach an agreement that keeps OPEC relevant in a future in which demand for OPEC oil has shrunk considerably. To learn more about the topics, check out the OPEC committee page.

I'm incredibly excited for BMUN LXVI, and can't wait to meet all of you in March. Until then, feel free to introduce yourself in the comments, and never hesitate to post or email with questions, info, and comments!
